Due to its highly dangerous properties, which can cause fatal health complications, asbestos was banned back in 1999. However, its popularity prior to this date means it can still be found in countless homes, commercial properties and industrial facilities throughout the UK. This is where Braye Demolition & Plant Services come in, providing safe asbestos removal to clients in our home town of Surrey, and all other areas we cover – including London, Kent, Essex, Hampshire, Sussex, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
Our team looks to minimise disruption to your day-to-day or week-to-week operations, while strictly adhering to the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012; this ensures both your safety, our team’s safety, and completely compliance with the law. The team we use is licenced to carry out the job, and use both specialist equipment and sophisticated techniques to minimise all risk involved.
Where can asbestos be found?
In a surprisingly high number of locations, in both domestic and commercial properties. Buildings often feature Asbestos Insulation Boards, which are found working in conjunction with ceiling tiles, bath panels, partitions, storage heaters, fireplaces, downpipes and gutters – although this list isn’t exhaustive. It’s also used outside of AIBs as loft insulation and pipe lagging, or inside garage roofs and soffits.
If I locate asbestos do I need to have it removed immediately?
Asbestos in a good, undisturbed condition can in many cases be left alone (it’s only when disturbed that it becomes dangerous, due to the distribution of small fibres which can prove deadly when inhaled). If asbestos has been uncovered or disturbed during building work or through a specialist survey, or is in a state of deterioration due to its age, we recommend calling in our asbestos removal specialists at your earliest convenience. Should you require advice in this area: please get in touch, as it’s always best to ere on the side of caution.
Can I carry out asbestos removal on a DIY basis?
We would never recommend a prospective client handle asbestos removal themselves. Coming into contact with even a microscopic fibre could have deadly consequences. This is why there are licenced asbestos removal specialists like ourselves, who have the right training and equipment to prevent such occurrences; keep in mind that standard protective masks etc. are not up to modern health and safety standards, and that disturbing asbestos in a reckless way can also put neighbours, pets and family members at a high risk.
